Should just start this out clarifying I'm not that thin, I'm bmi 17.8, so barely underweight and I'm short so I don't look visibly very thin.
I have lost about 4 kilos in the past month, mainly due to grief from my mother dying, I went to visit my ex boyfriend at his uni, we are close friends still and he has been very supportive.
When he saw my stomach he told me I looked like a 'starving Ethiopian child' and that I should eat more, and then when I said I looked like a pancake (I've lost quite a bit of my boobs) he agreed with me.
I just don't understand it because I'm not really thinner than before and definitely not to the extent of looking starved.

I think it's a way to express concern about sudden weight loss, but it doesn't mean that you're too thin, just that they noticed that you're thinner than before. At least, that's how I see it
